VETERAN STATUS

The Problem

We owe a great debt of gratitude to our veterans and those who are willing to serve in our armed forces.  Unfortunately, some employers default on that debt.  If an employee is called up to active duty, it can create a disruption in the workforce.  That often causes veterans to be discharged or discriminated against when they return from active duty.  Some people are hostile to veterans.  In some cases, veterans suffer severe injuries during active duty and need accommodations to continue to perform their jobs when they return to work from active service.

Remedies

There are laws that protect veterans from discrimination in the workplace.  There are also laws that protect a disabled veteran from discrimination in the workplace or that require a veteran to be provided with a reasonable accommodation that will allow the veteran to perform the job duties.
